Director of OSP Engineering for:

Mid-State Consultants, a division of JSI, is seeking a Director of OSP Engineering. The Director is a critical leadership role that oversees Outside Plant Engineering Services to provide high-level quality control of the OSP services; this includes oversight of Plans & Specifications, construction documentation, and inspection services. This position will interface with the Design Services team, transitioning the high-level designs into detailed, engineered plans & specifications to construct OSP projects. The Director will oversee an organization comprised of managers, engineers, technicians, field residents, and inspectors to deliver a balanced engineered product, both in the office and in the field. Must manage multiple projects and resources simultaneously, define good quality control measures, and be responsible for each project's technical aspects. 

Education and Experience: Requires a Professional Engineer License with ten (10) or more years of experience in related field and license must be for the State (NC, UT, MI) of the position’s location. (i.e., Utility Engineering,  Construction, Fiber, Telecommunications)

Major Job Elements:

  • Establish engineering guidelines and processes to be managed and followed throughout the OSP Engineering team, consisting of OSP managers, residents/inspectors, technical specialists, and technicians.

  • Builds and enhances a strong team that provides high-quality engineered products to execute and implement OSP projects to support clients in the telecommunications/broadband service provider industries.

  • Ensures accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of the engineered products, including plans & specifications, construction contracts, construction management, scheduling, project status reporting, and budgets.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor proper project status reporting and establish internal controls to manage personnel and operational costs.

  • Monitors and assesses current trends and emerging developments within the broadband industry to ensure the Company's compliance and expertise.

  • Remains abreast of best practices and trends relevant to Fiber/Network Construction and Design technologies.

  • Manages and coaches employees to increase engagement and strengthen professional development.

  • Continually strives to develop talent within the Construction organization to promote individual development and career growth.

  • Build and maintain relationships with market-level OSP Construction personnel

  • Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested

  • Intrastate and regional travel required > 20%. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work based on business opportunities and client requirements.
     

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to make decisions for large and small scope projects with minimal oversight

  • Requires an end-to-end understanding of OSP, Planning, Engineering, and Construction. Direct experience with RUS specifications is a plus.

  • Knowledge of FTTH, Copper, HFC, and OSP networking, along with a good understanding of external resource sourcing.

  • Leadership and strategic management skills to develop, coach, and direct a team's performance to meet schedules and objectives.
